{"id":1205,"date":"2024-01-19T13:45:38","date_gmt":"2024-01-19T13:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financeify.ca\/?p=1205"},"modified":"2024-01-19T13:45:38","modified_gmt":"2024-01-19T13:45:38","slug":"life-insurers-increase-assuris-protection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financeify.ca\/index.php\/2024\/01\/19\/life-insurers-increase-assuris-protection\/","title":{"rendered":"Life insurers increase Assuris protection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-post-featured-image\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-post-featured-image__wrapper\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Customers now have greater protection in the event of bankruptcy of their life insurer.<\/p>\n<p>Assuris, the member-funded nonprofit that protects policyholders in the event of life insurer failure, has increased its guaranteed level of coverage by five percentage points in four main categories.<\/p>\n<p>As of May 25, benefits are now covered up to the greater of 90% of promised benefits, up from 85% before the change, or the following amounts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Death benefit: $1 million (up from $200,000)<\/li>\n<li>Health care expenses: $250,000 (up from $60,000)<\/li>\n<li>Monthly income (e.g. from annuities): USD 5,000 per month (from USD 2,000 per month)<\/li>\n<li>Separate Fund Cash Value and Guarantees: $100,000 (from $60,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, cumulative value benefits are now fully protected up to 90% or $100,000, whichever is greater, compared to the immediate maximum of $100,000.
